Deleted Items & Recovery
What happens when something is deleted, how long it can be recovered, and how to restore earlier versions and attachments yourself.
Deleting in Document Ocean 360 is not instant and final. A deleted item is kept for a retention period, during which it can be brought back. Changes inside a document are never lost at all: every earlier version stays available.
Retention Periods
| Deleted item | Recoverable for |
|---|---|
| Projects | 30 days |
| Documents | 30 days |
| Workflows | 7 days |
| Tags, document types and comments | 7 days |
After the retention period, the item and its files are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Act within the window
If something was deleted by mistake, ask for it back straight away. Once the retention period has passed, it cannot be restored.
Getting a Deleted Item Back
Deleted projects, documents, workflows, tags, document types and comments are restored by the Document Ocean 360 team.
Raise a support ticket
Say what was deleted (its name, and the project it was in) and roughly when.
We restore it
The item is restored exactly as it was, visible and accessible again to everyone who had access.
Check the audit log
Both the deletion and the restore are recorded in the Audit Log, with who did each and when.
What You Can Restore Yourself
Earlier versions of a document
Uploading a new version never deletes the old one. To go back:
Open the document
Go to the document's detail page and open its version history.
Restore the version
Click Restore on the version you want and confirm. It becomes the current version.
Nothing is lost
No version is deleted when you restore, so you can always switch back.
Removed attachments
An attachment removed from a document can be restored from the same document’s detail page with Restore.
