Document Details
Understand the document detail page — PDF preview, metadata panel, revision history, and activity log for complete document visibility.
/projects/:id/documents/:documentId The Document Detail page is the complete view of a single document — combining a file preview, metadata panel, full revision history, and activity log in one place. It’s where team members go to review, download, and understand the current state of any document.
Page Layout
The detail page is split into two main areas:
- Left panel — The file preview area, displaying a rendered PDF or image preview for supported file types. Non-previewable files show a file icon with a download button.
- Right panel — A tabbed sidebar containing the Metadata panel, Revision History, and Activity Log.
Metadata Panel

Edit Permissions
ContributorTo edit document metadata, you need Contributor or higher access on the project. The following rules apply:
- System-managed fields (Document Number, Originator, Created Date, Last Modified) cannot be edited by any user.
- Status can only be changed through workflow transitions, not direct editing.
- All other fields are editable by Contributors when the document is in Draft status.
- Once a document reaches Approved status, metadata is locked. To make changes, create a new revision.
- Superseded documents are permanently locked for historical accuracy.
PDF Preview
For PDF and image files, the detail page renders an interactive preview directly in the browser — no download required.
Preview Features
The PDF viewer supports zoom in/out, pan (click and drag), page navigation, and fullscreen mode for detailed review. Use keyboard shortcuts: + / - to zoom, arrow keys to navigate pages, and F to toggle fullscreen. The viewer remembers your last zoom level and page position within your session.
Non-previewable file types (DWG, XLSX, DOCX, etc.) display a file type icon with a prominent Download button. These files open in their native application after download.
Revision History
The Revision History tab shows every revision of the document in chronological order, from the most recent to the original upload. Each entry displays:
- Revision code (e.g. A, B, 01)
- Status at the time of the revision — Draft , Approved , or Superseded
- Uploaded by — the user who created this revision
- Date — when the revision was uploaded
- File — a download link for the specific revision file
You can click any previous revision to view its metadata and preview side by side with the current revision.
Activity Log
The Activity Log tab provides a complete audit trail of every action taken on the document, including:
- Upload and re-upload events
- Metadata edits (with before/after values)
- Status transitions (with the user who triggered them)
- Review comments and workflow actions
- Download events
The log is immutable — entries cannot be edited or deleted, ensuring a reliable audit trail for compliance and accountability.
Audit Compliance
The activity log meets the traceability requirements of ISO 9001 and common EPC document control standards. Every action is timestamped and attributed to a specific user.
